If you used imageburn to burn the iso to the CD, then it should be bootable. You do not "copy" the file. If done properly, then the CD will be bootable.

That is easier than puppy linux. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I downloaded the SeaTools and used Nero this time to make it a bootable CD, but again, the computer just shows me the same error message rather than booting to the CD. Should I press F1 when that message shows up to ignore it? Will that cause it to boot to the cd? If you burn the cd as a image or iso then the file itself will make it bootable.

If you are burning it as a Bootable or Data disk it will not work. Try this to help you burn the ISO correctly. Go here and get burncdcc.. Select the ISO file 4. Followed the above steps, and still it won't boot to the cd. I don't know if this does essentially the same thing these tools are supposed to do, but in my bios there is a hd diagnostic self-test tool.

Sometimes, windows will get stuck when trying to initialize drivers for hardware devices that are not in operating order. If the data on your hard disk drive is critical, you can drop the old drive into a working PC and then just copy your important files off of it.

DarthOdor ,. Well disconnecting any non-operating hardware did not fix the problem. As it turns out my windows installations file system is corrupted. Its a whole gb hard drive that I partitioned into 4 smaller ones and the one containing the windows xp installation is corrupted as well as 1 more partition.

Is there a chance that I will be able to repair this? Its been a while since I have had to do this. What would be a suggestion now? Right now I am in windows recovery console doing a chkdsk on the windows partition. Oh since the file system is corrupted I dont get the choice of repairing an existing windows xp installation. Just to make sure we are on the same track here! Oh I did not do a repair on it with chkdsk. I just did a chkdsk drive: on it with no params on it.

Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD. If downloaded file is of. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.

Ok well apparently the dos cd version is useless as all it wants to do is setup the disk. That and fix the mbr. So it looks like this HD is going into another computer for me to install the windows version of that software to work with! What brand of hard drive do you have, and what tool did you download?
